London O2 ICT Trip
During December 36 Year 9 pupils accompanied by 4 members of staff – Mrs Wardman, Miss Mason, Mr Greaves and Miss Lovatt, recently visited London to take in the sights and visit the British Music Experience at the O2 arena.
As the coach arrived in London pupils headed straight towards the London Eye. A now famous landmark created by husband and wife team David Marks and Julia Barfield to celebrate the Millennium. Both pupils and staff enjoyed amazing views across London whilst on board the London Eye.
Covent Garden was next on the agenda for some very hungry pupils to enjoy the food delights of Fire & Stone restaurant. Back on the coach pupils were treated to sightseeing tour of London by night. The very helpful coach driver and our excellent tour guide ‘Derek’ was kind enough to drive through central London taking in some famous sights, landmarks and most importantly for some of the pupils – a chance to see all the larger shops with their Christmas windows on display! Pupils then spent the night in London, in a hotel near to BBC Television Centre (no celebrities were spotted unfortunately).
The next morning pupils and staff were treated to a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. A short journey on the coach later we arrived at the O2. Pupils were given a short talk on how music has changed throughout the decade. Pupils were given items from the past to look at such as vinyl records, cassette tapes, typewriters and a staff favourite the ‘Sony Walkman’! After the talk pupils had a look in the ‘British Music Experience’. Once in there pupils were able to explore and see for themselves the interactive museum of popular music. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed looking back at the different eras of music. Not only that, pupils could develop skills on guitar, bass, drums and in the vocal booth at the ‘Gibson Interactive Studio’ and even record their dance moves in ‘Dance the Decades’.
After the O2 visit, pupils were back onboard the coach ready to go and spend some time shopping in the newly opened ‘Westfield Shopping Centre’. The shopping centre is near to the Olympics so pupils were able to see all the developments and the Olympic village. After the shopping centre, pupils were taken to ‘Hyde Park Winter Wonderland’ a fantastic space in Hyde Park with a Christmas market, food stalls, ice skating and fairground attractions.
Finally, on the last day during the morning we visited ‘Madam Tussauds’ and lots of pictures were taken with the celebrity wax works – Justin Bieber – seemed to be a firm favourite for some reason! Then it was back on the coach for the journey back to Longridge. Overall pupils and staff had a fantastic time during the London trip, despite the cold weather!
